G-7: DSG Amina Mohammed to attend the Italy-Africa Summit in Rome

NEW YORK, JANUARY 26 – The UN  Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Italy, will head this weekend to Rome to participate in the Italy-Africa Summit hosted by the Government of the Republic of Italy as part its G7 Presidency’s focus.

The Deputy Secretary-General will also engage in bilateral meetings with senior Government officials, UN officials and other stakeholders, the UN Spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, said today. The Conference will be held on January 28-29.The Deputy Secretary-General will be back in New York on 29th of this month.

Ahead of the Italy-Africa Summit, the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, spoke over the telephone this afternoon with the President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and with the President of Egypt, Abdelfattah al-Sisi. The  conversations provided an opportunity to exchange ideas on revitalising Italy’s relations with the African continent and on the joint development of the ‘Mattei Plan’, a project based on collaboration on an equal footing with the African continent.
