PARIS, OCTOBER 19 – Italian contemporary artist Michelangelo Pistoletto was welcomed today at the Parisian headquarters of UNESCO for a stimulating conversation on art, education, peace, and future projects, the Permanent Mission of Italy to the UN agency for culture and education announced on X (Twitter).
Well known as a member of the Arte Povera movement, Pistoletto is not new to cooperation with the United Nations. Last September his iconic work “Third Paradise” was temporarily installed at UN headquarters in New York on the occasion of a Mid-Term event of the 2030 Agenda. The site-specific work, exhibited in the northern garden until September 28, is a representation of the symbol conceived by Pistoletto in 2003, interpreted through the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.
The “Third Paradise” is a symbol of creation, balance among diversities, and sustainability. It represents the fusion of the first and second paradises: the first in which humans were fully integrated into nature, and the second developed by human intelligence, leading to the global dimensions reached today through science and technology. The work displayed at the United Nations was composed of 36 porcelain stoneware tiles. The 17 sustainability goals were repeated twice, and after goal 17, an additional tile with the symbol of the SDGs Agenda 2030 was placed. (@OnuItalia)
