Turin and Piemonte: officials visit the US on the occasion of World University Games

NEW YORK, JANUARY 18 – The city of Turin and the Piemonte Region are in the United States for the Winter World University Games, 11 days of competition, music, culture, and food for thousands of collegiate athletes from more than 50 countries taking place in Lake Placid, NY. The Games will end on Sunday, January 22, when the baton will pass to the Italian region for the 2025 edition.

Ahead of the closing ceremony, the mayor of Turin Stefano Lo Russo and the president of Piemonte, Alberto Cirio, met today in New York with the Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, and the Head of the Cabinet of the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, Ambassador Courtenay Rattray. The objective was to consolidate and strengthen the UN presence in Piedmont, in particular through the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization which the United Nations founded in 1964 in collaboration with the Italian Government, the Staff College and UNICRI, the UN Interregional Research Institute on Crime and Justice.

In New York, Cirio and Lo Russo also met the Consul General of Italy in New York, Fabrizio Di Michele, and the Adjunct Consul Riccardo Cursi, together with the director of ICE (Italian Trade Agency) of New York Antonio Laspina. During the afternoon, the two had an interview at MoMA with the director of the International Program of the museum Jay A. Levenson and tomorrow one with the director of the Guggenheim will take place.

The meetings in New York were organized by the City and the Region to promote the sports, cultural, productive and gastronomic excellences, in collaboration with the Consulate of Italy in NY, the ENIT (Italian Government Tourist Board), ICE (Italian Trade Agency), Ceipiemonte (Piemonte Agency for Investments, Export and Tourism), Chamber of Commerce of Turin, VisitPiemonte, Edisu Piemonte (the Regional Body in charge of the Right to Higher Education) and the Piedmonts university network. (@OnuItalia)
