#OrangeTheWorld: at the UN, the EU heads of missions join 16 days of activism

NEW YORK, NOVEMBER 29 – It’s time to unite and advance concrete actions to end all forms of violence against women and girls: the European heads of missions to the United Nations got together to launch this appeal for the 16-day #OrangeTheWorld activism launched by the UN to combat all forms of gender-based violence. Ambassador Maurizio Massari joined the call that was posted on the Representations’ social profiles.

One in 3 women worldwide  have experienced violence in their lifetime. Violence against women and girls comes in many forms: from domestic violence, cyber-violence, sexual violence, psychological violence, economic violence, feminicide, and conflict-related sexual violence. “This is also a reality in Europe. The situation is alarming and deplorable,” the EU’s External Action Service had said in recent days.

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an annual campaign that begins on Nov. 25, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ends on Dec. 10, on the International Human Rights Day. Led by civil society, the campaign is supported by the United Nations through the Secretary-General’s initiative UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence against Women.(@OnuItalia)
