Italy’s Massari and PGA Shahid focus on Our Common Agenda, UNSC reform

NEW YORK, APRIL 5 – The Italian Permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, had a “fruitful meeting” today with the President of the General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid. Italy’s support to the platform Our Common Agenda and its implementation and the status of the negotiations on the Security Council reform were among the issues on the agenda.

The talks touched also the ongoing negotiations for the Ministerial Declaration to be adopted at the High Level Political Forum scheduled from Tuesday, 5 July, to Thursday, 7 July, and from Monday, 11 July, to Friday, 15 July 2022, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. This includes the three-day ministerial segment of the forum from Wednesday, 13 July, to Friday, 15 July 2022, as a part of the high-level segment of the Council. The theme for the HLPF 2022 will be “Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. The Missions of Italy and Nauru are serving as co-facilitators in the negotiations.

Massari and Shahid discussed also the global health architecture and the preparations for a General Assembly tourism event scheduled on May 4. This high level thematic forum will focus on the sustainable and resilient recovery of the tourism sector for the pandemic making sure that recovery efforts align with reducing global tourism emissions.  (@OnuItalia)
