Guterres-Massari meeting: ‘Our Common Agenda’, climate and Global Compact on the table

NEW YORK, JANUARY 24 – The Italian Permanent Representative to the UN Maurizio Massari and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met for a “fruitful” conversation. Among the issues on the agenda of the talks, which was held in the meeting room of Guterres’ office on the 38th floor on UN headquarters in New York in compliance with anti-Covid rules were Italy’s support to “Our Common Agenda”, the platform advanced by the Secretary General for his second term, financing for development and the role of the Global Compact, the world largest corporate sustainable initiative, of which many Italian corporations are part.

Talks touched upon climate emergency as well, a sensible topic which Italy dealt with from the front row at the COP26, co-sponsored alongside the United Kingdom, and again on an annual basis thanks to the Youth4Climate initiative and through ECOSOC. Italy has also recently appointed a Special Envoy for Climate in line with the decisions made by other countries including the United States. Regional crises and other focal issues at the core of the Italy-UN agenda were also discussed. (@Onuitalia)
