DFM Della Vedova’s visit the UN starts with meeting on children in conflicts

NEW YORK, NOVEMBER 22 – The Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Benedetto della Vedova started his two-days visit to the United Nations headquarters in New York with a meeting with Virginia Gamba, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for children in armed conflicts.

During the talks, Italy’s activities at the UN for the protection of minors were discussed, with particular reference to Afghanistan and Libya and in the framework of UNETCHAC, the Universities Network for Children in Armed Conflict. The schedule of meetings for the two-day visit includes talks with Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed and to the co-presidents of the LGBTI group, following the appointment of the first special envoy of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the rights of LGBTQI+, Fabrizio Petri.

Della Vedova will then attend a high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly on the update of the Global Action Plan for the fight against human trafficking. Among the topics on the agenda at the UN is also the Belarusian question and the situation on the border. A meeting with representatives of the Italian community in New York is also on the schedule.
