GENEVA, MARCH 21 – Speaking before the Human Rights Council, Italy’s Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Gian Lorenzo Cornado, said that “Italy will do everything possible, with the support of the Congolese authorities, to clarify the circumstances that, exactly one month ago, led to the tragic deaths” of Ambassador Luca Attanasio and and Carabiniere Vittorio Iacovacci.

Ambassador Cornado – affirms a note from the Representation – reiterated that “Italy strongly condemns the despicable attack that caused the death of two civil servants, who were a valuable resource for our country, and of the driver of the World Food Program, Mustapha Milambo”.

Last week, the World Food Programme received the conclusions of the fact-finding mission conducted by the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), which examined the circumstances surrounding the tragic attack on the convoy. The conclusions have been made available to the Italian authorities and must remain confidential – said the UN agency – both because they contain sensitive data and personal information, and in order to ensure the integrity of the investigations and verifications in progress.
