March 8: Italian contingent in Afganistan donates material for women and children

HERAT, MARCH 8 – During a ‘shura’ organized on International Women’s Day, the Italian contingent of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W) made a donation of furniture and electronic equipment to the Department of Women’s Affairs in Herat.

The donation, which is one of the CIMIC projects (civil-military cooperation), ensured the setting up of rooms used as kindergartens and facilities to facilitate the work of women. The event, carried out in compliance with the anti-Covid measures, was attended by the Deputy Governor of Herat Dr. Monesa Hasanzadeh, Dr. Anisa Sarwari Head of the Department of Women’s Affairs of Herat, representatives of institutions and women’s organizations of the city.

Brigadier General Beniamino Vergori, National Contingent Commander (NCC) and Commander of TAAC-W HQ, highlighted how women have always fought with tenacity and courage, succeeding in conquering a role in many areas of society but at times, unfortunately, paying a high price.  General Vergori also underlined the fact that every modern, dynamic and winning society cannot fully function without an adequate female presence in every sector; a presence that must become normality.

The area of Italian responsibility in which TAAC-W operates is a wide region of western Afghanistan (as large as Northern Italy) that includes the four provinces of Herat, Badghis, Ghor and Farah. The main component of the contingent comes from Brigade “Folgore”, with a contribution of personnel and vehicles from the Navy, Air Force and Carabinieri. (@OnuItalia)
