IAEA: Italy welcomes Iran safeguards agreement, calls for full cooperation

VIENNA, SEPTEMBER 16 – Italy welcomes the Joint Statement by IAEA and Iran aimed at solving outstanding safeguards issues. At the same time, “while welcoming Iran’s commitment to provide requested accesses and clarifications, we reiterate our call on Iran to fully cooperate with the IAEA on all its safeguards-related obligations”, the Italian Permanent Mission to the International Organizations in Vienna said on Twitter.

Italy is attending the 64th General Conference of the organization held at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) in Vienna, Austria, from September 21 to September 25.

At the end of August, after intensive bilateral consultations and a visit to Tehran by the agency Director General Rafael mariano Grossi, IAEA and the Islamic Republic of Iran reached an agreement on the resolution of the safeguards implementation issues specified by the IAEA. Iran is voluntarily providing the IAEA with access to the two locations specified by the IAEA and facilitating the IAEA verification activities to resolve these issues. Dates for the IAEA access and the verification activities have also been agreed. (@OnuItalia)
