Counterterrorism: Italy calls for vigilance on illicit financing during COVID-19

NEW YORK, JULY 8 – At a Virtual Counterterrorism Week webinar on High Risk Threats and Trends in Pandemic Environment, Italy’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nation, Stefano Stefanile, highlighted the need for coordinated action, support for people in difficulty, preserve the integrity of the legal economy.

“We must be vigilant to the increased risks of recruitment, illegal economic activity, illicit financing of terrorism in the current environment”, Stefanile said, stressing that law enforcement agencies recently seized 14tons of amphetamines &84 millions pills produced in Syria by ISIL groups.
