NEW YORK, JANUARY 18TH- A fruitful discussion with international agencies dealing with security took place today at Italy’s Permanent Representation at the UN. The discussion was organized in occasion of a visit from the Antimafia Commission of the Italian Parliament, chaired by the Senator Nicola Morra.
The meeting focused on the importance of strengthening international cooperation in the fight against terrorism and organized crime, and saw the participation of Unodc, Interpol, the UN’s anti-terrorism office, and the anti-terrorism Security Council Committee. The Palermo Convention -a UN agreement against transnational crime, signed in 2000- was also discussed. The parliamentarians belonging to the Italian Antimafia Commission furthermore visited the Carabinieri exhibition at the UN Headquarters, entitled “The art of saving art”, on the protection of cultural patrimony.
The Commission -guided by Morra and including the old Senate president Pietro Grasso- previously met in Washington executives from Dea, from the department of justice of the Supreme Court. The Commission also visited the Quantico Fbi and Dea base in Virginia. A crown of flowers was placed on the statue of Giovanni Falcone, one of the inspirers of the Palermo Convention. (@OnuItalia)
