NAIROBI, NOVEMBER 13 – “Italy will always stand by women and young people: every person counts,” the Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, said today at the Nairobi Summit, a high-level event in the capital of Kenya marking the 25th anniversary of the International Conference on People and Development (ICPD), which took place in Cairo in 1994.

“Today the world has become a better place for women and girls,” the Deputy Minister said, addressing the summit in her national capacity: “However, there is still a long road ahead,” she added pointing out the steps to be made in order to achieve gender equality by 2030, also in terms of legislative reforms, political representation, gender wage gap and respect of women’s rights to sexual and reproductive health.
“Italy is in the forefront of this battle and this is why I am pleased to announce other financial contributions aimed at speeding up the end of gender violence and harmful practices,” Del Re said. “We will continue to conduct our campaigns in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) with a view to enhancing awareness among young people and in the communities while providing them with more information.(@OnuItalia)
